We recommend patients have their eyes tested once every one to two years depending on their current eye condition. We can help improve vision quality by updating your prescription regularly. We will recommend the frequency of your exam based on your age, overall health, eye health and family history.

You can rest assured that your eyes are in the very best hands at EyeSmile. Our opticians each have a wealth of experience caring for vision. Your sight will also be tested using the most modern, advanced equipment available. This means that the results from your eye examination will be extremely accurate.

It’s important that no aspect of your eye health is missed. For that reason we have invested heavily in specialist cameras. These advanced pieces of technology allow us to take in-depth 3D photographs of your eyes including the parts of them that can’t be seen.

Once your eye examination is complete you will be given plenty of time to speak to your optician about any findings or queries you may have. You will then be handed over to one of our knowledgeable dispensing opticians who will help you choose your eyewear, should you require it.

What To Expect During an Eye Exam

Before you see the optomotrist you will be asked a few non-invasive questions about your eye health and family medical history. These questions are nothing to worry about. They simply help us identify which vision tests are needed to identify your current eye health and vision needs. Details of the different Eye exams we provide can be found here.

Once we have your medical history, we will identify which glasses or contact lenses you are currently using. We perform a full range of tests, including a glaucoma test, visual acuity and refraction test. The results of these tests will determine whether you need a follow up appointment, and if you need updated or new glasses or contacts lenses. The test evaluates your overall eye health condition too.

Vision Acuity Test

This test examines how well you can see out of each individual eye. Each of your eyes will be covered one at a time while you identify letters from a set distance.

Refraction Eye Exam

Refraction eye exams provide us with the updated prescription you are going to need, whether you choose glasses or contact lenses, or both. In this test, we will have you trying out a variety of different lens strengths, as this helps us determine the correct strength of lens you need for each eye.

Types of Eye Exams

There are a variety of different eye exams including comprehensive, diagnostic, vision test, colour test and more.

Comprehensive eye exams are performed in our Whitton based clinic where we carry out routine test to identify your vision and overall eye health. We identify any vision problems and provide effective treatments to improve your vision in the long run. Click here to find out more.
