Dental Implants

You may have a gap that makes you feel self conscious,  you’re having trouble chewing or biting food, or an irritating denture that keeps moving and you want a more reliable fix. Dental implants are a long term reliable fix to replace missing teeth with a very natural looking solution.

The amazing thing is implants look and function like natural teeth, they will give you your confidence back, you will be able to eat again, and the biggest thing is keep stability in your mouth by supporting other teeth and stop them drifting and growing in funny directions . Did you know teeth keep growing till they hit the opposite tooth ?  if you have lost a tooth then the opposing tooth can keep growing till it hits the opposing gum.

What is an implant?

An implant is like a metal root made out of titanium. This metal root is placed into bone. What is fascinating is that your body accepts the titanium root and does not reject it as foreign soon your bone will fuse with the titanium. This metal root is now the foundation for a crown. A crown is placed on top of the root to match the surrounding teeth and hence it looks natural. Implants preserve the jaw bone, prevent facial sagging giving the remaining teeth support, restoring function and appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions
Dental Implant FAQs
1. What are dental implants?
Answer: Dental implants are artificial tooth roots made of titanium that provide a permanent base for fixed or removable replacement teeth. What is fascinating is that Implants are so biocompatible that our body accepts the implant and our bone fuses with the titanium. Implants are designed to blend with your natural teeth and provide a strong foundation for a single tooth, several teeth, or a full set of teeth.
2. Who is a good candidate for dental implants?
Answer: Good candidates for dental implants are individuals with healthy gums and adequate bone to support the implant. Candidates should also be committed to maintaining good oral hygiene and regular dental visits. Certain chronic illnesses, such as diabetes or heart disease, and habits like smoking, may require individual evaluation.
3.What are the benefits of dental implants?
Answer: Benefits include improved appearance, speech, comfort, and self-esteem. Implants function like natural teeth, allowing for easier eating. They are also durable, with many lasting a lifetime with proper care. It is really important to know the impact of not having an a gap filled can result in teeth moving , drifting, overeruption and can result in loss of the opposing tooth / adjacent teeth if the gap is not filled.
4. How painful is the dental implant procedure?
Answer: Most patients report that the procedure is less painful than they expected. Local anaesthesia is used during the surgery, and post-operative discomfort can typically be managed with over-the-counter pain medications. Often the discomfort is no different than having a tooth out. This treatment has become so routine now that time off work is rarely needed.
5. How long does the dental implant process take?
Answer: Although the process is efficient, time is needed for your bone to fuse with the new implant (osseointegration). For this process of new bone to develop, a few months is needed between implant placement and the final crown over the implant. The entire process can take several months, from initial consultation to the placement of the final crown. As every case is unique we will discuss your whole treatment journey with you. Our treatment coordinator is here for you every step of the way.
6. How do I start the process of getting dental implants?
Answer: The first step is to schedule a consultation with your dentist with a special interest in implant dentistry. During this visit, your dentist will evaluate your oral health, discuss your treatment options, and create a personalised plan for your dental implant procedure.
7. What can I expect after getting a dental implant?
Answer: After the procedure, it is normal to experience some swelling, bruising, and minor bleeding. Pain and discomfort can be managed with prescribed or over-the-counter pain relievers. Your dentist will provide specific post-operative care instructions.
8. How do I care for my dental implants?
Answer: Care for dental implants involves good oral hygiene practices, including brushing, flossing, and regular dental check-ups. Avoiding habits like smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can also help prolong the life of your implants.
