The procedure is one of the safest and preferred methods to gently remove the wax from the ears, without any use of water such as syringing. This is because the water from syringing can increase the chance of infection and damage to the ear drum due to the pressure of the water.
It involves using a probe and small suction tube to remove the wax in the ear. The ears would be checked by an otoscope (magnification tool) and assessed prior to micro suction.
Before your appointment, you would need to fill out a medical questionnaire with a consent form. This would also highlight if there were any medical reasons why the procedure is not suitable for you.
Please ensure that you do use olive oil spray (such as Earol) from your local pharmacy 5-7 days prior to your appointment as the wax would be too hard to remove using microsuction if it is not used. Please bring the spray with you to the appointment as we may need to use it in the appointment.
Please do not use cotton buds, or scratch or poke your ears as this can damage the delicate skin in the ear canal which can therefore cause bleeding, irritation and increase the risk of ear infections and other complications such as hearing loss.
